Arranged to get to Bigbury for 9.30 expecting Westerly cross shore winds funneling through the gap for a couple of hours either side of high tide. Unfortunately it was slightly cross onshore which is a pain when there's very little beach to get back to and a lot of cliff if you get washed downwind. To make matters worse the wind dropped as soon as I rigged and got changed, it was looking like a let down.

I waited for 20 minutes and the wind kicked in again but not as strong. The quandry was whether to change up to the 5.2 which meant derigging the 4.7 for the mast, in the end I went for the bigger wave board and stuck with the sail. It wasn't such a bad choice as it was nicely powered in the gusts but the lee of Burgh Island is a pain at high tide. Everyone was hammering out 200 metres then grinding to a halt just where the waves were breaking on the inside. I made it out to the outside a couple of times and there were some scary mast high bone crushers so I stopped mainly on the inside.

Loads of swimming, plenty of rinse cycles, head contact with the boom on a precarious nose first landing and a good day all in all.
